As the leader of China's cotton industry, Xinjiang has ranked first in terms of total cotton output and unit yield for 30 consecutive years, providing a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the textile industry. The series report "Xinjiang Cotton · New Weaving" takes you to understand how Xinjiang has formed a whole industrial chain from "one cotton" to "one garment", and how Xinjiang's modern textile industry system has opened up a new path for development.

A "magnificent turn" of cotton from the field to the workshop

In the production workshop of the enterprise, it only takes about ten minutes from a packet of cotton fibers to a piece of non-woven fabric.

Extending the cotton industry chain to boost the economy and employment

In Korla Economic and Technological Development Zone, 20% of 28 enterprises focus on deep processing of cotton industry. In order to break the single product manufacturing model from cotton to yarn in the past, the local government introduced a series of preferential policies to attract investment from coastal enterprises. This enterprise from Nantong, Jiangsu Province settled in Xinjiang four years ago. Now, 6 workshops and 12 production lines have all been put into production, driving nearly 700 local jobs.

Technological innovation leads to a new engine for green development of cotton industry

In the workshop, the spinning frame runs at high speed, and tens of thousands of sensors build an intelligent production network to feed back the production status and product quality in real time.

Printing and dyeing is an important part of the cotton textile industry. In order to solve the problems of high energy consumption and high pollution of printing and dyeing processes, enterprises seek solutions between "increase" and "decrease", increase sewage pretreatment equipment and build reclaimed water circulation pipe network, and reduce sewage discharge and the use of dyeing materials. It not only reduces environmental pollution, but also saves costs for upstream cotton spinning enterprises.

Today, Korla Economic and Technological Development Zone has become the first textile industry cluster in Xinjiang with an output value of 10 billion yuan. This year, the local government will continue to develop home textile, knitting and other end products, promote the extension of the textile and clothing industry to the downstream, and realize the closed-loop industrial chain from "one piece of cotton" to "one piece of clothing".
