Ten Years Of Entry Into WTOFocusing On WTO Process Of Textile City

10 years ago, in December, Changzhou's "Black Peony (Group) Limited by Share Ltd" approved the listing of the CSRC. In the same month, China formally joined the WTO.

Changzhou is China. Spin Well-known city. Expectations for WTO are extraordinary.

"The black peony at that time can be seen as a great success. In the words of our old factory director, that is black peony. loom One day, you can drive into a BMW. Said the president of the black peony group.

In the 80s and 90s of the last century, "Black Peony" denim became famous in overseas markets, becoming a famous cowboy in the world. clothing Cloth for brand selection. With China's accession to the WTO in 2001, "Black Peony" ushered in a rare opportunity for development. The annual production capacity of the Black Peony before the accession to the WTO reached 20 million meters, and it expanded to 40 billion meters per year in a year.

Over the past ten years, the annual weaving capacity of black peony has been maintained at 40 million meters, while the export share of textile products has dropped from 95% in the current year to 50% today, and the proportion of textile industry has decreased from the initial one hundred percent to 50%.

Jiangsu Changzhou, a small town in the south of the Yangtze River, has been the production base of the cotton spinning industry since ancient times. By the 80s of last century, Changzhou was already a famous textile city in China. According to Cao Defa, President of Changzhou Textile Industry Association, at that time, there were more than two thousand textile enterprises on the scale of Changzhou, many of them were well-known state-owned large enterprises, and textile workshops with family as their own were numerous.

"In 2001, the door of WTO was opened to China, and the textile industry was considered to be the most profitable industry. We are more ready to prepare for big development. In June 2002, "Black Peony" shares were listed on A shares. At the end of the year, the annual manufacturing capacity of BLACK DENIM DENIM reached 40 million meters, making the industry look at it. "That year can be regarded as the best day for black peony to date." Ge Yafang said.

Statistics from Changzhou Commerce Bureau show that the total export volume of textiles in Changzhou accounted for 40% of the total export volume of Changzhou in the first three years before joining the WTO.

But it did not last long. The SARS in 2003 poured cold water on the export enterprises of China. The export was blocked and the competition between enterprises springing up into the textile industry sprung up. By the end of 2004, "Black Peony" found that the gross profit margin of textiles was only 20% to 30%, half of that before the accession to WTO. Then, due to capital push, domestic cotton prices continue to rise, making textile enterprises struggling to cope.

Cao Defa said: "at that time, Changzhou has closed down many home textile workshops."

At that time, black peony began to set foot in the real estate industry, and the proportion of textile industry in enterprises began to decline. Ge Yafang said: "especially in recent years, the increase in labor costs, appreciation of the renminbi and the impact of the international financial crisis have made us lose our breath. The gross profit margin of the textile industry is even less than 10% today.

Ge Yafang joked with reluctantly: "in addition to increasing employment, Chinese textile enterprises are basically working for the people of the world." Today, black peony textile exports account for 50% of domestic sales.

Lin Zhongyi, chairman of Changzhou corduroy's representative enterprise, moonlight corduroy, said that although the output of corduroy is growing, the main business has been relatively tight for 5 years. To this end, enterprises are exploring new ways of planning logistics, cultural creativity, pension benefits and other industries.

As the leader of Changzhou textile industry, Cao Defa said: "10 years after joining the WTO, competition for Changzhou's old textile and garment production base is intense. The textile industry has increased by nearly three times before entering the WTO, and the exchange rate has increased by nearly three times than before entering WTO. However, in the competition, it has accelerated the upgrading and upgrading of the entire textile industry.

Changzhou is an industrial city arising from textile industry. But WTO, which seems to be the most beneficial to China's textile industry, has made the city start a difficult transformation. Zong Hua, director of the foreign trade department of Changzhou Commerce Bureau, said that the textile and garment industry has been a pillar industry of Changzhou's economy for decades before joining the WTO. In the 10 years after joining the WTO, the total export volume of Changzhou's textile industry has increased four times, but its share in the total economy has been shrinking. The new equipment manufacturing industry is replacing the traditional textile industry's position in the urban economy.
