According to a report by the EU times on July, Myanmar is still considering whether to cancel the system of preferences. The EU monitoring mission was originally scheduled to visit Myanmar this summer to investigate the human rights situation and the government's willingness to improve human rights, but it was delayed due to the new outbreak. The EU has asked Aung San Suu Kyi's government to submit a written report by mid September on the latest progress in dealing with the conflict in northern Rakhine state and other human rights issues.

Myanmar has enjoyed the treatment of EU GSP since 2013. In 2017, the Burmese army took military action in northern Rakhine state, causing hundreds of thousands of Muslims to flee to Bangladesh. So far, the EU has not yet made a final decision on whether to cancel the review of Myanmar's GSP on the basis of human rights.

In 2019, Myanmar's export to the EU will reach 3.2 billion US dollars, with textiles accounting for a large proportion. If the EU cancels the GSP treatment to Myanmar, thousands of people will lose their jobs.
